It's Elemental

  • and so

    and so

    and so

right in front of me a salty leaf embraces the light
it and the light are one happening
it and the light and I are one happening
this one happening is embracing the light
but so much more as well

the leaf is an idea of the light
or maybe the light is an idea of the leaf
regardless they are both my idea of themselves
but so much more as well

somehow – no, it is spaceless –
somewhere – no, it is timeless –
    is an idea of me
do I have that idea, or does it have me?
regardless, we both have each other
but so much more as well

    I’m fading into myself
I peer deeply into my peering
I am my own peer, mirrored across the threshold of myself
looking and looked, embracing and embraced
and so much more as well

now the leaf is looking at me
    it embraces my embracing
    it’s striving becomes my becoming
    one happening is happening newly
    like the leaf itself
but so much more as well

we are seeing with one bright seeing
because the light sees through my eyes
sees the Earth rise up in my hands
tastes the air on my lips
and so much more as well

out of the nowhere the light and I are born
out of no-where the leaf and the light and the love between us is born
and borne through me we see what seeing sees in the spaces in between
and so much more as well
and so much more as well

  • do not think about this

    do not think about this

    footprints

    do not think about this
it is not here for your pleasure
    not waiting self-less
    for some deathly embrace
as if it were not already perfect
and rising starkly, gently behind you
perusing the pages of your eyes
    passing no judgment

    straighten your back
    and fly into the sunset
as you were meant to –
    objectless, void, unsundered
by the sheer presence of its wings
    will you be lifted
    footprints trailing clouds
into what has always known you

pulling the threads of your heart
it makes your fists close hard
about what you can never grasp
    the light to your shadow
    a silence around your music
    forgeless and forging
    you become its thoughts
    it is no it
    I AM

  • Identity

    Identity

    Identity

    Metaphor:

The unknown attempts to know itself.

    It marks itself.

    Space arises in no space.

    Identity marks itself in time.

    Time transforms identity.

    Identity dissolves in time.

    Space yields no space.

    The mark unmarks itself.

    The known is newly unknown.

    Time for a new metaphor.

    Goethean Studies Notebook

    Goethean-Studies-1999-2000-Notes-by-Seth-MillerPDF: Goethean Studies Notebook (40mb)

PDF: Higher quality, print version (180mb)

This notebook was created as a personal record of the 1999-2000 Goethean Studies program at Rudolf Steiner College. This unique course, conceived of and taught primarily by Dennis Klocek, is still being offered — it is now called Consciousness Studies. When I took the course, which was seven months long and met for about three hours every weekday, I liked to call it “Being Human 101”, because it offered some basic perspectives about being human that spanned the spiritual, psychological, and physical worlds in a very deep and coherent way.

There are certainly errors contained herein: it was often simply not possible to record more than the merest fragments of the vast pictures that awakened in the little Emerson classroom and flowed like honey across our minds. This record is like a six year old’s crayon rendition of a Michelangelo: it may contain something recognizable, but is no substitute for the real thing, which I encourage everyone to experience.

It is likely that the only people who will see this document are those already familiar with the course in one of its various incarnations. For you I hope that it re-awakens a commitment and enthusiasm for the hard and necessary work of spiritual transformation by connecting you to the feeling you had sitting in the uncomfortably cold room on uncomfortable chairs, listening to another mind-blowing morning lecture by Dennis: the feeling that you were exactly where you needed to be and wouldn’t trade it for anything.

For those who have not been able to take the course, this gives a tiny taste of some of the content that was presented in its 1999-2000 incarnation, and will hopefully inspire you to research the current, more highly refined and potent version.

For those who have found this page but have no idea what I’m talking about even though you’ve read this far, just flip through it like it was you long-lost friend’s photo album and see what tickles your fancy as you skim on by.

  • a tiny window

    a tiny window

a tiny window gathers the world
    echoes morning’s rush of life
amazingly, my fingers trace your carved shoulder
like they have never known geometry
    somebody somewhere is getting coffee,
walking the dog, dressing for a long day –
but not we, whose worlds have just collided
under the gaze of a tiny window
that no one is looking through
because we are beyond ourselves now
and I know this by the way your hair
threads lightly across the bow of your cheek
by the way every gesture becomes music
and because when you smile I am lost
again, you have taken my watch, and found forever in the bargain –
I pretend to be offended because my world is now upside down
and I can’t understand why everything else isn’t falling
drawn inexorably by the velvet honey of your eyes
this must be what yes is
this must be the future twining round our ankles
lacing up our hands in unspoken prayer
while beyond our reach the coiled leopard of time
anchors claws to earth for its inevitable leap
why should time be linear anyway?
for it is the timeless in us that is now rejoicing
in this spiraling pressing of bodies and souls
upwards into the long arms of the sky
    through a tiny window

    waiting for that little nudge
    just the thing you needed
    for you to fly

Knowing is essential, so that we can unknow.
Finding a way is essential to losing the path.
Adding brick to brick is essential to knock the wall down.

Knocking down walls is essential to create materials for new walls.
Losing the path is essential to find a new way.
Unknowing is essential to find new knowing.

    This is not circularity
it is iterativity on themes of becoming
the way and the unway are coincident(al)
    the new blossoms through death
