    Sleep, Dreams and Video Games

How you use your attention in waking life has definite effects in your dreaming life.  The following is my distillation of some insights from anthroposophy in this regard, which I offer as one way of looking at this phenomenon, specifically around the issue of video games and dreaming.  This post should provide an appropriate background if necessary.

If people are comfortable with the terms, we can talk about how the astral body (the subtle body that allows something outside to become something for us inwardly; i.e. the sense-body, which we share with animals) gains its content in large part by reflecting itself off of the etheric body (the less subtle body that keeps your body from becoming a corpse, which we share with the plant realm).

When you spend hours of time focusing your senses on particular stimuli (i.e. a video game) your are patterning your etheric body through physiological repetitions: the movements of your eyes, hands, breathing, etc., and more importantly in the endocrine responses and other physiological changes that go along with the particular game experience.  Knowing why this is important needs a little background first.

When you go to sleep, and you are no longer imposing your astral body on your etheric (i.e. choosing where to direct your attention and what sensations you will seek and avoid) your etheric body starts to (more…)

  • Coros Meditative Retreat: The Teachings of Isis: From Anxiety to Insight

Dennis Klocek is holding a Coros Institute meditative retreat on April 3rd – 5th (Palm Sunday Weekend) at Walker Creek Ranch in Petaluma, CA.

    Topics will include:

    · Death of the spirit in the material world as a source of unconscious anxiety.
    · Working on the essential steps of separating the soul forces in the process of self-development.
    · Re-uniting effectively the soul forces and forging new insights into dreams, destiny and karma.

If you have never heard Dennis or worked with him before, you are in for a real treat.  He walks his talk, and offers a very unique approach and vision of personal transformation.  It’s not just theory, but well-honed advice that weaves together decades of personal meditative work, phenomenological study, and repeated application.  You don’t want to miss it!

Attached is a PDF flier that you can print and mail in to register: do it before you come up with some lame excuse to stay home and keep your life static and unchanging!

  • down they sing

down down down inside there is a silent speech
you sense it with your fingers as they absent-mindedly clasp
the empty space between your palms
a holding on to something that never was
the words are unlike these, and your eyes cannot fix them
    into harsh dualities of coincidence
    cannot shatter their glass frames
and spill them into false awakening,
for they are too alive with movement and carelessness
too bursting with their own unconscious
to be forgotten by your recognition
swayed no longer by pointed barbs of attention
you slip unknowingly into the place you always were already
the lemniscatory pulsing of the arteries
a sonata played on your inner organs
frayed concepts dissolving in your living words
like salt into the warm liquid of time
no longer obeying your self-congratulatory epistemology
    nor your heroically reflective meta-stases
by which of course we can only mean

but you know what I mean
because you read now with your fingers, your breath
    your earlobes and your wings
    the sleepless ones are here
    joyous in your sleep
    sowers of your dreamless dreams
    singers of your wordless words

  • brain(s)

my fingers are tapping to an unknown rhythm
a sightless pattern just below consciousness
feeding somewhere in the background of my eyes
    it swirls, dives, escalates, tumbles
and words – my God, words! appear

    mysteries profuse my skin
    invisible knives punctuating reality
    letting the dreams out
    all the while
    tap tap tap

    and more: you, unquietly reaching
    impossibly leeching, receiving
    growing dreams of my dreams
    with another blind seeming
    a different kind of feeding

    we, the complex together
    cradle each other now
    discovering pathways to ourselves
    shouting keys and rending walls
    loosing what we have found
